Brief about earlier TRANSED Conferences:
TRANSED was started in 1978 by the International Committee under the US Transportation Research Board. The International Committee is a group of professionals who are experts in developing new strategies to enable seniors and persons with disabilities to maintain their independence and participate fully in everyday life just like any other citizen. TRANSED's mission is to promote the exchange of experiences in planning, financing, application of legal rules and regulations, policy and realization according to the needs of that part of society. The first TRANSED was held in Cambridge, England in 1978. Throughout the years TRANSED has been held twelve times in nine countries. From its roots as a small, specialized meeting among a handful of researchers, the conference today attracts hundreds of delegates from 40 nations from six continents. TRANSED has traditionally been held in Europe and North America and only twice) in Asia (Japan) in 2004 & Hong Kong (2010).
The theme of the TRANSED 2012 Conference is “Seamless Access for All: Universal Design for transport systems and infrastructure as a key element in the creation of livable cities." We expect to receive over 1,000 participants at the Conference and attract over 100 exhibitors from overseas, the Asia Pacific region and India.
We also expect professionals, academics, government officials, researchers, manufacturers, operators and businessmen from various disciplines, including social service, logistics, transport, tourism, rehabilitation, travel, etc. It will be one of the few international conferences that attract multi-sectoral and multi-disciplinary engagement.
